Kruse's Polled Herefords is proud to annouce a Level 4 Johne's Disease Free Herd Status and TB Accredited Herd! Johne's Disease is a chronic, contagious enteritis characterized by persistent and progressive diarrhea, weight loss, debilitation, and eventually death. It is caused by a bacteria named Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis. It affects cattle, sheep, goats, llamas, camels, farmed deer, and other domestic, exotic, and wild ruminants. It also has been recognized in wild rabbits. There are conflicting data on the involvement of the causative organism in Crohn's disease, a chronic enteritis in man. Bovine TB is a respiratory disease caused by the bacteria Mycobacterium bovis (M. bovis). A chronic, slowly progressive disease, bovine TB does not spread easily and may cause no symptoms in infected animals. M. bovis is related to M. tuberculosis, the bacteria that causes TB in humans. *For these reasons KPH has taken action to applied for TB Accredited Herd with two years of complete herd testing. KPH is a Proud to be an Gold TPR Breeder in the Hereford Association! |
